Installation and first run

Installing

  1. Download BroadcastSync from the downloads page and run it on the machine that will hold the local copy.
  2. Launch it. The main window shows the job list and the status panel.
  3. Choose Add to create your first job.

FTPS AND OPENSSL: If you intend to use explicit FTPS, the OpenSSL 3 libraries must be present alongside the application. Without them everything still works over plain FTP, and the title bar reads (no TLS support) so you can tell at a glance.

A safe first job

Set the first job up so that it cannot do any damage while you're checking it:

  1. Point it at an empty local folder you've created for the purpose, not at an existing library.
  2. Leave pruning switched off. "Delete local files that no longer exist on the server" is the only option that removes anything, so leave it off until you trust the job.
  3. Use Test connection before running anything. It logs in, lists the remote folder, and reports the item count.
  4. Run it once manually with Sync Now and check what arrived.
  5. Only then set a schedule and enable AUTO.

WHY START THIS WAY: A mistyped remote path combined with pruning is the one combination that can remove local files you wanted. Confirming the path first costs a minute; recovering an archive costs considerably more.

Where settings are stored

All jobs and preferences persist to:

%APPDATA%\BroadcastMate\BroadcastSync.ini

Back that file up if you have a lot of jobs configured — it's the only record of them.
